So far, in fact, that you can now play your favorite mobile games on your browser!

Here, we’ll explore the best free multiplayer browser games available right now, providing firsthand insights into the gameplay and features that win players like you over!

Battle Arena: Heroes Adventure

Released:10/10/2019
Developer:Red Brix Wall
Genre:Action RPG

Battle Arena: Heroes Adventure is an online role-playing game with multiplayer PvP arena battles in which you’ll combine active combat skills with strategic gameplay to overcome hordes of enemies and real-time PvP combat.

With each challenge you overcome, your heroes become stronger. They’re capable of taking down more complex boss enemies.

Multiplayer Features

In Battle Arena: Heroes Adventure, multiplayer takes place in the War of Guilds—a PvP-focused game mode that requires you to build a team from a roster of more than 50 unique heroes.

With your powered-up team of mighty heroes, you’ll face off against other players in offensive and defensive battles in an arena with leaderboard functionality.

Suppose you’re less competitive but still want to participate in multiplayer.

In that case, Battle Arena offers more social multiplayer features like chat, trade mechanics for heroes and items, and a clan system to combine forces with your friends.

Elvenar

Released:4/8/2015
Developer:InnoGames
Genre:Strategy

Perhaps the most popular genre on mobile and browsers is strategy. The ability to pop in for ten or twenty minutes, build up a city, and unlock additional research provides immense satisfaction.

But as the most popular genre, it becomes stale after a time.

Elvenar aims to shake up the game by offering a unique fantasy setting. The mythical world of Elvenar features races of elves and humans, visual upgrades, unique weaponry, and advanced technologies from a fantastical world.

But on top of the city-building aspect, which should eat up most of your time, there are fully animated 3D battles full of fantastical creatures, monsters, and heroes.

Multiplayer Features

Speaking of battles, if you want to participate in PvP combat, this isn’t the game for you.

Elvenar does not offer PvP, though it does have a battle system against AI opponents. You may build an army of mythical beings and creatures, then send them to neighboring plots to conquer additional territories and reap rewards.

Your settlement always needs resources, like money and supplies, to continue thriving. Sometimes, your neighbor is the best source.

Alternatively, you can trade with other players and merchants using the game’s marketplace. There, you’ll find numerous goods and resources to help you continue growing your city from the ground up.

Forge of Empires

Released:4/17/2012
Developer:InnoGames
Genre:Strategy

Forge of Empires cements its position as one of the top city-building games on mobile and browser, offering a breadth of features, progression systems, and multiplayer components.

In Forge of Empires, you take on the role of a fledgling society. You’ll build and lead a city through various ages, from humble beginnings to space-age technology, while researching new abilities and construction.

All the while, you can participate in PvP against other players to conquer additional territories.

But the PvP aspect isn’t a necessity. You can focus on your tribe, developing a city, and actively working with other players in a more casual environment through trade and cooperation.

Multiplayer Features

You’ll spend much of your time in Forge of Empires actively working to improve your settlement, learn new technologies, and build a thriving empire.

But sometimes, that means working with another player.

You have multiplayer options in Forge of Empires, though. You don’t have to actively wage war, though it is one possible route to success.

Alternatively, you can cooperate with your neighbors. They may have resources you’re lacking. As such, players can trade with you and vice versa, allowing everyone in the area to thrive.

Another player may visit your city, supporting your construction and improvements with a few coins or valuable blueprints to construct Great Buildings.

Grepolis

play grepolis online

Released:12/8/2009
Developer:InnoGames
Genre:Strategy

Have you ever wanted to recreate ancient Greece with a bit of your personal touch included?

Grepolis takes that premise and runs with it from the get-go. You have an opportunity to forge alliances with other players and the Greek gods, recruit armies, wield powerful heroes and mythical monsters, and build an ancient Greek settlement from the ground up in Grepolis.

You’ll start with a small settlement, a polis, as the game calls it, and inevitably grow into a metropolis.

That said, Grepolis is a more confined, straightforward experience. It isn’t filled with bloat.

There are 13 buildings and 30 technologies, a fraction of what most games in the genre offer. To many, that’s ideal. It’s a streamlined strategy experience that offers many hours of fun on your browser!

Multiplayer Features

While Grepolis may not bloat its content with hundreds of unique buildings and one thousand technologies to unlock, it does offer something else: epic battles.

Grepolis strongly relies on its combat system to keep you playing consistently. You’ll build naval and ground forces, send them to battle for you, form alliances with other players, and take control of a world of antiquity.

Here, battles are a team effort. If you try to fight the world solo, you’ll destroy your polis in the first instance. You must align yourself with other players, join or form a guild, and thrive in this multiplayer browser game.

Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming

Released:3/26/2019
Developer:Yoozoo Games
Genre:Strategy / RPG

Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming capitalizes upon the popularity of the long-running book series and television show by thrusting you into the world of Westeros.

There, you take on the role of a lord, determined to stop the endless wars plaguing the land.

Like any good strategy game, Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming balances base-building, expansion, unique characters, and thrilling combat to keep you progressing through the gameplay experience.

There are numerous microtransactions and lengthy wait times to reach certain milestones. It can become quite a slog.

Multiplayer Features

One of the key multiplayer browser game components in Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming is the game’s Alliance Conquest mechanic.

In it, you’ll join a player alliance, enter an arena, and earn points by defeating other players in combat, occupying vital strategic locations, or capturing a point for an extended period.

These multiplayer battles do occasionally feel drawn-out, however. They last for one hour. The Alliance who obtains the most points wins and earns unique rewards.

Alternatively, there are training grounds, castle sieges, and other real-time battle events to participate in throughout Westeros.

PvP is often the sole focus of Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming, which is ideally suited to competitive players on the go!

Hero Wars

Released:October 2016
Developer:Nexters
Genre:Idle RPG

I’m an active player when playing on a PC or a console. I want engagement, progression, and occasional competitive gameplay to keep things fresh.

But on mobile, I tend to lean towards idle RPGs and management games, which normally is the opposite of my gaming habits.

That said, many idle games are available, but few are captivating, like Hero Wars.

Hero Wars features a diverse roster of class types and heroes, including Tank, Mage, Fighter, and Marksmen. You’ll band together, working through various levels full of unique enemies, slaying monsters, and earning experience points and currencies to help you progress.

Watching your heroes flourish and become more robust with each passing round is extremely satisfying!

Multiplayer Features

While it’s not active combat or real-time, direct-control battles, Hero Wars does offer competitive PvP gameplay via multiplayer wars.

Like in the single-player aspect, you will summon your heroes and build a party to face off against an opponent’s party. The two groups will battle, and whoever is stronger will come out on top.

While it may not be the most captivating gameplay, it does offer the benefit of seeing how well your heroes have progressed during regular gameplay.

With many hundreds of thousands of active players, you should have no trouble finding a multiplayer battle, thankfully.

In time, you’ll learn which heroes’ abilities do best in PvP combat and which you should leave on the sidelines!

Rise of Cultures

play rise of cultures online now

Released:6/24/2021
Developer:InnoGames
Genre:Strategy

Developer InnoGames understands how to captivate players with a complex yet approachable strategy game.

They make some of the top hits in the genre for browser and mobile games, and Rise of Cultures is yet another win under their belt.

Like most other city-building strategy games on browsers, Rise of Cultures tasks players with starting fresh—a fledgling city with room for growth—before diving into an advanced multiplayer world.

But more importantly, you’ll take on the role of a famous leader, similar to the Civilization series, and help their culture expand and dominate the globe.

Multiplayer Features

As is common with this genre, Rise of Cultures tasks you with primarily focusing on yourself. You’ll build your city, research new technologies, and fight PvE battles.

It isn’t a PvP game, so if that’s what you’re after, there are better multiplayer browser games on this list that offer competitive, real-time battles against other players.

Instead, Rise of Cultures focuses on cooperation. You’ll build your civilization and culture, but you can interact with other players to trade goods, chat, and collaborate to help different cultures via alliances.

If you’re missing specific resources necessary to finish construction, why not hit up your neighbor?

Chances are they have something you could use and vice versa, so set up a trade and start thriving!

Tentlan

play Tentlan Online
Released:7/10/2018
Developer:Lionmoon UG
Genre:Strategy

While certainly not a brand-new game, Tentlan is more niche. It doesn’t pull the same numbers as the more popular strategy browser games on the market, like Forge of Empires, but it still offers captivating gameplay with a unique setting.

Instead of picking a nation and working through the ages, you build up a city in the rainforest as part of the Maya.

You will develop a settlement, build an empire, recruit legendary heroes from Jaguar and Eagle warrior rosters, and even learn how to control the weather and seasons via rituals.

It’s an interesting dive into a culture and time period that’s often ignored in strategy games, especially on mobile and browsers!

Multiplayer Features

You’ll primarily spend your time building a city solo but occasionally delve into cooperative and competitive gameplay, too.

You can form tribes with other players, similar to alliances, and work together to construct a thriving empire whilst playing Tentlan.

Conversely, you can build your forces and take the fight to your enemies in a bid for total conquest.

You have access to numerous troops, including great heroes, that you’ll want to train by defeating barbarians in the surrounding area before going head-to-head with other players.

However, it should be noted that you do not have a choice whether you want to play PvP or not.

The game will force PvP upon players, and some people play it frequently, which means they know the strategies and ideal units. It’s challenging to find your footing in the competitive space!

State of Survival

state-of-survival-logo-cover-art

Released:8/27/2019
Developer:KingsGroup Holdings
Genre:Strategy

State of Survival is a mish-mash of various genres and brands, with heroes and events stemming from the likes of Resident Evil and Pacific Rim prominently displayed across the game’s welcoming pages to entice new players.

It works!

Suppose you want a strategy game that allows you to build and expand a base during the post-apocalypse, tower defense mechanics, multiplayer components that see you facing down challenging bosses, and more.

In that case, State of Survival wins crowds for a reason.

Surprisingly, it’s also straightforward to grasp and gain ground despite launching years ago. A new player can actively participate and succeed, which is a nice change of pace!

Multiplayer Features

While you’ll spend most of your time playing State of Survival single-player, it has components of a multiplayer browser game.

You could spend all your time on the Explorer Trail, the single-player game mode in which you control hero characters through real-time combat encounters.

But if you want to experience the post-apocalypse in authentic glory, you’ll want to fight other players.

For that, the regular gameplay exceeds expectations. You’ll build your base, acquire resources, train various troops to fill out your squads, and then fight against hordes of zombie-like creatures, mutants, and other players.

It’s the latter that proves most challenging. Mutants are one thing, as they go down quickly enough. But other players have time on their hands. They know the mechanics and the troop compositions that work. It’s fun either way!

When it comes to the best free browser games with multiplayer mechanics these days, you have options.

It depends on your favorite genre, period, and whether or not you want PvP or cooperative multiplayer elements.

These few games should provide you with an excellent starting point!
