The next Mass Effect game is still in development at BioWare.
In a blog post on the studio’s website for N7 Day, Mass Effect executive producer Mike Gamble wanted to “set the record straight” after rumors began to circulate that the game wasn’t going to move forward. The studio says that not only is the next Mass Effect game in development, but “EA and BioWare remain committed to telling more stories in this universe.”
Gamble says the team is “heads-down and focused exclusively on Mass Effect” after what they said was an incredibly busy last few years.
“We have a lot of universe to cover, lots of features to build, and lots of romances to figure out,” he said. “We’re excited by what we’re building, and we promise you: when we’re ready, it’ll be a lot of fun to show. Until then, thank you for your patience because y’all are thirsty for news and I see you looking for secret meaning in my tweets (okay, sometimes they have secret meaning).”
Rumors have been circulating about the state of Mass Effect and BioWare for months after the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Those rumors picked up more after the announced $55 billion sale of EA that, should it go through, would take the company private and include taking on $20 billion in debt. Even a number of current BioWare employees expressed concern for what could happen to the studio after the sale closes.
