Battlefield 2042 was supposed to be a return to form for the famed franchise in a modern-day setting. However, the FPS launched to widespread criticism, with critics and fans alike unhappy with the game. Battlefield 2042’s player count in 2025 might surprise you, and some interesting data is available using Steam Charts, which I’m going to break down for you.
The early days of BF 2042 were endless montages about the lack of content and the enormous number of bugs and glitches. Battlefield 2042 really was quite broken at launch, and it took a long time for it to resemble what many wanted—let’s not mention the infamous scoreboard issue.
Battlefield 2042 is still the most recent modern interpretation of BF. With time to kill until Battlefield 6, let’s take a look at its player count numbers and how it fares in 2025.
How Many People Are Playing Battlefield 2042 in 2025?

Battlefield 2042 averages 5,000 to 7,000 concurrent players each month in 2025.
I bet this is higher than you thought it would be! Despite the complaints and rocky launch, there are still thousands of you manning vehicles and wingsuiting your way through BF 2042.
Deeper analysis shows that its peak numbers are even more respectable. There’s also been some growth with the hype and excitement of Battlefield 6 increasing. BF 6’s reveal and beta dates are making the Battlefield juices bubble over.
Battlefield 2042 Steam Charts Player Count, Explained
July 2025 saw an average of 5,481 players on Battlefield 2042. It’s ‘Peak Players’ nearly doubles with 10,158 users logged in simultaneously.
The game’s debut in November 2021 saw over 50,000 players playing—according to Steam Charts. If you’re not aware, Steam Charts is only able to track players on PC, as there’s still no consistent technology to monitor PlayStation or Xbox figures.
BF 2042’s average numbers dropped to under 10K within two months, and by May 2022, things looked grimmer with fewer than 2,000 people playing. The game has had multiple moments of resurgence since its release.
October 2023 achieved 27,052 players on average, with a peak of 107,006—the game’s all-time peak stat.
In 2025, a few thousand players are active each month. Its numbers are slightly lower than Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 5. I would expect BF 2042’s numbers to plummet considerably once the Battlefield 6 betas are active, and more so once the full game is out.
