In a new series of posts on X, the team behind Balatro revealed it has now sold 2 million copies, as well as a 2025 release window for its first major gameplay update.
There is no concrete release date for the update, and today’s post only broadly elaborates on content. The devs state it will “bring new ideas and strategies to the game.” They also add that “the update will be completely free,” thanking the community.
While there aren’t any specific details about the update, it is only one of three big announcements.
In a follow-up tweet, the Balatro team also announced they have “two more surprises this summer,” inviting fans to “keep an eye out for some more exciting news.”
Balatro added its first major update a couple of months ago, but the 1.0.1 update focused on balancing changes and fixes instead of gameplay. It adjusted some ante scaling, buffs, and more, though it did feature some new joker types.
The indie strategy game’s sales continue to impress, as it first hit 1 million copies sold just weeks after launching earlier this year.
In March 2024, developer LocalThunk previously announced plans to add more updates, but also bring Balatro to the iPhone. Balatro is certainly suited for mobile gameplay, with its swift pacing and creative ideas livening up the roguelike genre.
