A new trailer for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has just confirmed that the upcoming Season Pass will include a Bonus Quest at launch and two Story Packs next year.
The first Story Pack, “The Sky Breaker”, is slated for Summer 2024. “Secrets of the Spires” is the second Story Pack, coming in Fall 2024. Concrete release dates have not been confirmed at this time.
While the Bonus Quest “Familiar Echoes” appears to operate within the base game, each Story Pack is now expected to introduce completely new areas through their unique narratives. You can review some of the gameplay footage and concept art in Ubisoft’s full trailer:
The Sky Breaker concentrates on fresh, nomadic characters. So, it’s notable that today’s trailer mentions they will “reunite with old friends”. They are also setting out to attend a gathering of clans from other areas.
Though set after the events of the first Avatar film, these new details could imply that players might encounter familiar faces from the movies.
This would be a thrilling way to capitalize on the IP in a natural way. It would certainly make sense to follow up the base game with more from the source material, which earned any goodwill to begin with.
Although the first Avatar film has been somewhat divisive, the second film showed just how flexible its lore can be. The new Season Pass in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora partly promises to continue that trend.
The mining plot of Story Pack 2 tackles some familiar themes. However, the emphasis on aerial combat should intrigue fans. The ability to soar through the air would be fantastic, especially on PC, given the officially confirmed specs.
It’s clear the devs have a plan for the future of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and the Season Pass doesn’t feel exploitative. The focus on content over cosmetics is a welcome relief.
