Atari Announces Fatal Run 2089 For PC & Consoles

In a new trailer released today, Atari revealed a new trailer announcing Fatal Run 2089, a reimagining of one of Atari’s classic post-apocalyptic games.

There is currently no concrete release date, but today’s trailer does tease that Fatal Run 2089 is “coming soon.”

Notably, the ESRB rating for the game is still pending. According to a press release, it will launch in 2025 for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.

The new trailer showcases a variety of cars, weapons, levels, obstacles, and potential bosses. It also features a modern take on ideas from the original Fatal Run, which launched in 1990 on Atari 2600 and 7800.

The trailer description further elaborates on Fatal Run 2089. It adds there are “four distinct global regions” and “seven different vehicles.” It also reveals that “drivers will battle against the clock through 20 levels.” This appears to be fewer levels than its predecessor.

Atari’s own trailer for Fatal Run 2089 includes a different description that focuses on the story. It says that players “are racing to save the world, keeping the ARC reactor alive.” It also mentions that players can upgrade their vehicles.

Atari previously released a limited edition cartridge for that original game, but that was some time ago and is naturally sold out.

Most recently, Atari’s Infogrames publishing label purchased the rights to the Surgeon Simulator series in June 2024.

  • It looks like that Dr Disrespecr studio game? This was before my time tho this franchise. Anything new for Bubsy? Primal Rage?

  • Atari should acquire more not sure why they haven’t done anything in a while. Ziggurat would be perfect, Interplay, and I have to wonder if they now buy some of Embracer’s stuff. What happened to System Shock 3 is that them?
