Astro Bot is Asobi’s ‘Biggest Game Ever’ With 150 PlayStation Cameos

Team Asobi has clarified that Astro Bot is the company’s biggest game ever, boasting an ambitious scope that incorporates cameos from around 150 iconic PlayStation characters. Releasing in time to celebrate PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, Astro Bot is a full-fledged platformer that’s drenched in Sony-themed goodness, featuring 80 levels that give players ‘a renewed experience every 10 minutes or so.’

Astro Bot Blasting Off

On September 6, Astro Bot will be released exclusively on PlayStation 5. It’s one of the most highly anticipated games that was shown at the recent State of Play event, which elsewhere was fairly lacklustre and didn’t hit too much of a mark with the community.

In a recent interview, Team Asobi’s Nicolas Doucet spoke at length about Astro Bot, revealing how in-depth and expansive a game it’ll be:

We wanted to make a big game. This is really about going up one notch — really several notches — and having Astro’s big story. We call it Astro Bot because we treat this as a new beginning. That’s a really, really big game. I think for us, that’s the biggest game we’ve ever made.

While the first Astro title was a free bolt-on that came with the PlayStation 5 console, Astro Bot is a premium release with plenty of content to explore. In some ways, Astro Bot has been touted as a ‘reunion’ for some of PlayStation’s most iconic characters. With a roster of 150 cameos being lined up, it seems impossible that any PS-based personality from the last thirty years will have been missed.
