ARC Raiders’ next major update is incoming, and it’s set to arrive a little sooner than we thought. It’s called ‘Cold Snap’, and as the name suggests, it’s a wintery update that is poised to blanket Speranza and the surrounding area in snow. It’ll also introduce the Flickering Flames event, but nobody understands what that is just yet.
In a new post on social media, the team at Embark Studios revealed exactly when Cold Snap is coming out on all platforms.
When is Cold Snap Coming to ARC Raiders?
Cold Snap will be released in ARC Raiders on December 16, per a recent social-based update from Embark Studios:
This long-awaited update will bring winter to Embark Studios’ award-nominated extraction adventure title. The image has already been pored over by fans worldwide, and several theories have already surfaced.
For instance, it has been noted that the image shows a dead Raider, but it’s not clear what killed them. This has led some to believe that the Cold Snap update will introduce inclement weather that will freeze a Raider to death if they spend too long outside.
That lends itself to the ‘Flickering Flames’ theory, which could be a special map condition that shrouds any given map in a blizzard, and to stay alive, players must find sources of heat, or ‘flickering flames’.
This is conjecture at this point, as nothing is confirmed until Embark Studios offers more information.
The chronology is also a little strange, as everyone thought the next major ARC Raiders update would land with the Expedition Project window, but that’s set to close on December 22nd.
