Remedy has just published an update on the state of play for Alan Wake 2, revealing that the game is the fastest-selling title the studio has ever released. It was confirmed that as of February 2024, Alan Wake 2 has sold around 1.3 million units. In two months, Alan Wake 2 sold 50% more copies than Control did in its first four months on the market, Remedy’s report confirmed.
Not The End of the Story
Alan Wake 2 was released in October 2023 to remarkably positive reviews, boasting action-packed, terror-fuelled gameplay intermixed with mind-bending scenes and an immersive story. In three months, it sold more than a million copies and continues to perform well moving into 2024. It’s catching up on Control, which since 2019 has sold just over 4 million units, Remedy confirmed.
In a statement, the CEO at Remedy, Tero Virtala, said:
We are happy with the start of Alan Wake 2’s sales. The price point has also remained at a high level, and the game has already recouped a significant part of the development and marketing expenses. We will continue to develop the game to serve existing fans and attract new players and expect the game to continue selling well.
There are two paid DLCs in development for Alan Wake 2 which will help immeasurably to extend the ‘long tail sales’ that Remedy is confident of. Both Alan Wake and Control serve as the foundation of the ‘Remedy Connected Universe’, an ambitious and far-reaching creation that will be expanded in the future by the developer.
