After Pivot To “AI First”, Krafton Offering Staff Voluntary Resignations

After announcing a move to being “AI first”, Krafton wants to cut staff numbers and is offering employees a way to leave the company through voluntary resignations.

These offers come just after Krafton reported record-breaking numbers in its latest earnings report.

First reported by Business Korea, the publisher behind games like Subnautica, inZOI, and PUBG announced their plans on November 12, and is making offers to all company employees. This even includes junior-level employees with five or less years of service to the company.

The offer to employees is based on their time with the company. The offers range for those with less than a year of service up to more than 11 years, including:

  • One year or less: Six months’ salary
  • Two years or less: 12 months’ salary
  • Five years or less: 18 month’s salary
  • Eight years or less: 24 months’ salary
  • 11 years or less: 30 months’ salary
  • More than 11 years: 36 months’ salary

Despite these offers, Krafton says that this isn’t a layoff, rather it’s assistance in “proactively designing” the growth of current staff.

“The core purpose is to support members in proactively designing their growth direction and embarking on new challenges both inside and outside the company amid the era of AI transformation,” Krafton said in a statement to Business Korea. “The company plans to support members in autonomously deciding whether to continue the direction of change internally or expand externally.”

In addition to the voluntary resignations, Krafton has paused any hiring for the company aside from parts of the company “developing original intellectual property (IP) and AI-related personnel.”
