Ubisoft is Remaking AC: Black Flag, It’s Claimed

In a report published by Kotaku, it has been claimed that Ubisoft is remaking Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. It’s news that has surfaced while the developer is still neck-deep in the difficulties presented through the production of Skull & Bones, so it may seem a little bizarre that another pirate-themed title is in development.

However, consider for a moment that Black Flag was easily one of the best Assassin’s Creed games ever to release, and it starts making sense. According to Kotaku’s sources – who are ‘familiar with the plans’ – Black Flag’s remake is being worked on by Ubisoft Singapore and will not be completed for at least another few years.

Back to Black (Flag)

Originally, AC: Black Flag was released in 2013, and at the time, it was the first game in the series to go backwards in time rather than forwards. It told the tale of Edward Kenway, a privateer turned pirate turned assassin, dominating the Caribbean with a fleet of ships and picking apart a Templar threat piece by piece.

We’ve seen plenty of remasters of the Assassin’s Creed series over the years, but we’re yet to have a complete rebuild of an entire project. For the longest time, the community has been calling out for a remake of the first Assassin’s Creed game, released in 2007, but a rebuilt Black Flag would go down just as nicely.

If you’ve never been familiar with the game, here’s one of the better CGI trailers to showcase what it’s all about:

In the article published by Kotaku, it was stressed that the sources of this news are unwilling to be named – as is expected – but they’re ‘familiar’ with the plans that are in their ‘earliest stages’ as we speak.

Are you excited about the prospect of a remake of Black Flag?

  • You wrote that it was the first assassins creed to go backwards in time rather that forward? That’s a misworded comment seeing as the theme of the series is about going back in the past through memories.
