Sony is Reminding Everyone That PlayStation Age Verification is Coming Soon

Sony’s first warning about PlayStation getting age verification first arrived a couple of months ago. But things move fast, and there’s a good chance you’d forgotten about it, as I had, but this is one of your final warnings that you’ll need to verify your age very soon or be locked out of certain PS features.

Age verification has hit very hard in the last couple of years. GTA Online requires it, as do many games and services, but we know that PlayStation will require Age Verification for certain online features.

Sony made sure to remind me!

The initial email stated that PlayStation communication features, like messages and voice chat, will require a one-time age verification process to let you continue using them.

Fast forward a few weeks, and I’ve had another email from Sony forewarning me once more:

‘This is a reminder that age verification will soon be required to use PlayStation® communication features, such as messaging and voice chat. You will still be able to access other PlayStation services, like games, trophies, and the Store, if you do not verify your age.

This is a one-time check and usually takes just a few minutes. Completing it ahead of time will help you continue accessing communication features when you want to use them. Please complete the one-time check now if you would like to continue using communication features.’

You can verify everything in one of three ways: A selfie, a form of ID, such as a passport or driving license, or by confirming your mobile number.

I chose the latter; it took less than a minute, and now my account is verified. I’m free to engage in inane voice chat conversations, playing multiplayer games with my friends to my heart’s content!

Have you completed the age verification process yet? Will you be doing so at all? Share your thoughts on the new security measure via the Insider Gaming Discord.
