Warhorse Studios has been busy capitalizing on the success of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 in the last 12 months, and the time will come for the studio to move on. Suggestions are that it already has, and the developer of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is potentially working on a new Lord of the Rings game.
Insider Gaming brought you an exclusive story in late 2025 that a new The Lord Of The Rings game was in development. After recent underwhelming releases under the banner—Tales of the Shire and Gollum—there’s a hope that a new release can redeem the LOTR name.
There might be no one better suited for the job than Kingdom Come dev Warhorse Studios.
New Lord of the Rings Game Potentially Being Developed By Warhorse Studios

Here’s what we know so far: A new Lord of the Rings game is in development, close to $100 million is being funded by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, and it is a third-person action game in a similar vein to Hogwarts Legacy.
Now, according to hiberner toujours in a ResetEra post, Ryszard Chojnowski—a 27-year industry veteran who’s been a project lead for The Witcher—has spoken on Tolkien Polska – Podcast, and claimed that it is in fact Warhorse Studios working on the Lord of the Rings game.

“A couple months ago Insider Gaming made a report about UAE investing 100 million dollars into a new, open world Lord of the Rings game worked on by one of Embracer Group studios (which hold rights to LotR games) codenamed ‘Revenge Studios.’
A few days ago there was a podcast where a Polish industry veteran Ryszard Chojnowski revealed that he has heard from credible sources that the studio working on that game is in fact Warhorse Studios, makers of Kingdom Come Deliverance, and also owned by Embracer. Apparently, he heard it a couple months ago already and didn’t believe it, but there have been more whispers about it recently.
To echo what Chojnowski said, this isn’t a new rumor, and this is merely stoking the fires of the existing rumor. Warhorse made (in Insider Gaming’s opinion) the best RPG of 2025, and there might not be many better studios to bring The Lord of the Rings to life in a stunning new open-world RPG.
Officially, this is all speculation and gossip for now, so take the information with a pinch of salt.
Do you think Warhorse could do a fully-fledged Lord of the Rings game justice? Would the realism of Kingdom Come need to be toned down for a worldwide mainstream release? Let us know your opinion through the Insider Gaming Discord.
