When Will Fortnite Servers Be Back Up? Fortnite April 1 Downtime, Explained

Fortnite players should be well accustomed to regular downtime by now, but when the servers are not available, it can raise alarm bells for those who aren’t aware of what is going on.

A fresh patch in Fortnite is being deployed on April 1, bringing version 40.10 onto the scene, and with it comes fresh content to enjoy, including a new game mode.

If you’re impatiently waiting for the Fortnite servers to return, here are all the details on when they will be available.

Fortnite servers are down for several hours for the April 1 update, although the exact time the servers will return is never usually confirmed by Epic Games.

Downtime on April 1, which marks the start of Fortnite OG Season 8, begins at 2 AM ET. While it’s not officially confirmed how long the servers will be down for, previous experience gives us an expected time frame.

Usually, downtime on mid-season updates is not as long as the seasonal transitions, like the move to Chapter 7, Season 2, and instead, downtime is around three to four hours on average.

Using that metric, the Fortnite servers should be back up somewhere around 4 AM to 5 AM ET on April 1, though this is subject to change, especially if any issues arise while the patch is deployed.

As usual, the best place to keep an eye on the Fortnite server status is social media.

What’s In The Fortnite April 1 Update?

The biggest tweak coming in the April 1 Fortnite update is Season 8 of Fortnite OG, which rolls it back to Chapter 1, Season 8 from 2019.

Build-up for the switch has been taking place all week, with earthquakes on the Fortnite OG island ahead of the volcano’s emergence, which will bring POIs and overall map refreshes to the scene.

Elsewhere, the patch will also get things set for the return of the Avengers limited-time mode, which launches Friday. Just like it was in 2019, teams will be split into Avengers and the Chitauri, with a head-to-head last team standing battle. However, there are updates to the loot pool.

In addition to those content drops, the Super Styles in the Battle Pass are expected to be revealed, while there could also be leaks ahead of Save The World’s imminent move to a free-to-play model.
