Bungie are preparing Marathon for the long haul, as the studio has unveiled its early plans for the extraction shooter. The roadmap reveals content plans that lead all the way to November, so the first six months are seemingly all planned ahead.
Seasons are set to last for three months apiece in Marathon, so there’s plenty of time to unpack the content Bungie packs into each one. That means that Season 1 and Season 2 are seemingly prepared, and fans can already look ahead to what is in store for them.

Marathon Season 1 2026 Roadmap Content, Explained—March To June
Marathon kicks things off with Season 1: DEATH IS THE FIRST STEP, which launches alongside the game’s official launch on March 5, and there’s a lot of content for you to unpack.
It’s perhaps the most important Season of Marathon’s life cycle, as the game needs to launch with substantial content to keep players hooked and invested in the longevity of the game. Thankfully, it seems that Bungie has a lot in store, and all of the launch content is listed for you down below:
- Complete Faction and Contract progression
- All 6 Factions, each with its own Upgrades and progression
- All 6 launch Runner Shells
- 3 Zones (Outpost will unlock the day after launch)
- 28 Weapons, including Mods, Implants, Cores, and more
- Earnable Cosmetics, Achievements, and Storytelling through the Codex
Whilst that seems like a sizable chunk of content to work through, there’s still more content planned to drop throughout Season 1 of Marathon. Most notably, the fourth zone, Cryo Archive, will unlock once the community unlocks its way into orbit. Expect this to arrive mid-March, alongside Ranked mode, which Bungie will share more details about soon.

Bungie confirmed that each new Season will have its own unique theme and combination of features to continuously evolve the world and gameplay of Marathon. It’s a promising notion, though details are admittedly more scarce for Season 2. Here’s what’s known so far:

Marathon Season 3 2026 Roadmap Content, Explained—August To November
The current Marathon roadmap doesn’t reveal any information for Season 3 of Marathon, other than the fact that it will start in August, and end in November.
There’s little need to see that far into the future at this stage in the game’s lifecycle, so it’s not a problem that Season 3 remains a mystery. So long as Bungie are confident in their 2026 roadmap, that should be enough for the fans.
