While Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green may not have the audacious amount of Pokémon to collect that the modern games do, it can still be difficult hunting down specifics, and Vulpix can be tricky to find.
Fire-type Pokémon are a dime a dozen in Fire Red and Leaf Green, especially if you didn’t opt for Charmander as your starter, increasing the need to hunt down Vulpix. Additionally, it evolves into the extremely powerful Ninetales, a fan favourite.
If you’re on the hunt for Vulpix in Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green, Insider Gaming has all the details you need.
How to Get Vulpix in Pokémon Leaf Green

Vulpix can be caught in three locations in Pokémon Leaf Green, appearing on Route 7, Route 8, and in the Pokémon Mansion.
However, it might take a while to hunt down Vulpix in some of these locations. In Route 7 and the Pokémon Mansion, Vulpix is a rare spawn. Meanwhile, Vulpix is an uncommon encounter on Route 8.

In your hunt, you will likely encounter a bunch of Meowth, Pidgey, and Bellsprout before you encounter a Vulpix. As it’s one of only a few Fire-type Pokémon available in Leaf Green, however, it’s worth grinding for.
The grind is definitely worth it if you opted for a starter that wasn’t Charmander, as the only other Fire-type Pokémon available to you are Ponyta, Magmar, Flareon, and Moltres.
Can You Catch Vulpix in Pokémon Fire Red
No, it is not possible to catch Vulpix in Pokémon Fire Red, as Vulpix is an encounter exclusive to the Leaf Green version of the game.
Instead of Vulpix, searching in the areas above has a chance to lead to a Growlithe encounter. Similarly, it’s worth hunting for this Pokémon due to the lack of Fire-types overall in Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green.
To get a Vulpix in Fire Red, you need to trade with another player using a local wireless connection.
How to Evolve Vulpix into Ninetales in Pokémon Fire Red & Leaf Green
Unlike the majority of other Pokémon in Fire Red and Leaf Green, Vulpix needs a Fire Stone to evolve and does not evolve into Ninetales through basic level-up.
Fire Stones can be purchased from the Celadon Department Store, and it’s worth stocking up if you want to complete your Pokédex. The other Fire Stone evolutions in the games are Eevee into Flareon and Growlithe into Arcanine.

Additionally, Fire Stones can be obtained through exploration of Mt. Ember as items on the ground. Unlike the Celadon Department Store, this doesn’t provide an unlimited supply.
