How to Get Cut HM01 in Pokémon Fire Red & Leaf Green

Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green has players trekking down memory lane with another adventure through Kanto, but finding specific items like HM01 Cut can be tricky.

While modern Pokémon games have a fair amount of hand-holding, Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green are a throwback to a time when gaming had a lot more secrets. Rather than giving you direct instructions, it’s left to you to work everything out for yourself.

If you’re scratching your head on where to find the Cut HM in Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green, Insider Gaming has the details.

HM01 containing Cut is found in the Captain’s Cabin in the S.S. Anne, which is docked in Vermilion City. However, you need a ticket to board.

The ticket is obtained by speaking to Bill on the corner of Route 25. From Cerulean City, head north onto Nugget Bridge, defeating your rival and then all the trainers in order. Then, head east through the maze of trainers until you reach the Sea Cottage.

After helping Bill, you receive the S.S. Anne Ticket. Now, head back to Cerulean City, and continue south to Route 5. Then, follow the Underground Path to reach Route 6, which leads directly to Vermilion City.

In Vermilion City, head south to find the S.S. Anne docked, and enter. Inside, there are a host of trainers to defeat and another battle with your rival.

The Captain’s Quarters are found on the second floor of the S.S. Anne, with the rival battle occurring just before you reach the stairs. Once they are defeated, head up the stairs and speak to the Captain to receive the Cut HM.

Best Pokémon For Cut HM01 in Pokémon Fire Red & Leaf Green

If you’re looking for an easy HM slave in Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green, both Paras and Oddish are decent options. However, they will take a spot in your party, and are far from the strongest Pokémon.

Instead, if you’re looking for a Pokémon to learn Cut and still be a decent asset in your party, the likes of Rhydon, Scyther, and Kabutops are solid options, although some won’t be available until much later in the game.

Thankfully, unlike TMs in Fire Red and Leaf Green that break after a single use, HMs like Cut are permanent additions to your toolkit and can be used repeatedly.

Be careful when using HMs in Fire Red and Leaf Green, however, as they cannot be forgotten like normal moves. Instead, you can only delete them by visiting the Move Deleter in Fuchsia City.
