It’s only fur to question Mewgenics’ availability on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 consoles, and even older-gen models. The developers behind it have smashed it out of the park, and it will go down as one of the year’s biggest games, but it would be even bigger on console.
There was no question that having Edmund McMillen (Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac’s creator) and Tyler Glaiel team up to deliver Mewgenics would create something great; little did many realize it would be special. Its nearly-90-rated Metacritic score is evidence alone, but sales and social media success have shown that everyone wants to play, hence today’s questions.
Can You Play Mewgenics on PS5 or PS4?
Mewgenics is currently not available to play on PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 consoles, with the game not appearing on any PS Store.
Now, there’s no need to be catty with your disappointment! Even though the PS5 is pretty much regarded as the biggest and best home console to play on, it doesn’t mean every game in existence releases on it.

This isn’t to say a PS5 (or even a PS4) debut isn’t on the cards, but curTAIL your expectations for now.
Can You Play Mewgenics on Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One?
You can’t find or purchase Mewgenics on the Microsoft Store, making the game unplayable on Xbox.
Xbox owners are also being left to fend for themself outside waiting to be let in by Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel. The dynamic duo has done a great job developing Mewgenics, but more time will need to pass until we see it on an Xbox device.
Can You Play Mewgenics on Nintendo Switch or Switch 2?
While Mewgenics releasing on Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 is the most promising scenario of all, it has not happened, as of writing.
All will be explained next, but for now, there is no console port of Mewgenics, with the game being isolated purely on Steam for PC owners.
Mewgenics Console Release, Explained
In a Reddit AMA, Edmund McMillen has confirmed that the Switch 2 is the “frontrunner” for a console release, and hasn’t specifically ruled out a PlayStation or Xbox release for Mewgenics.
On February 8, McMillen took to the Steam Deck subreddit of all places and answered some burning questions. However, while several were Steam Deck and PC-related, a console question sneaked in there: “Is it coming out on PS4/5 too?”
Here’s the dev’s response:
“We are deciding on a publisher now and defer to them when it comes to what they feel is worth developing for.. i have no idea what is viable anymore but i know switch 2 seems like the front runner right now.”
Mewgenics is currently self-published by McMillen and Glaiel. It’s simply easier and cheaper to arrange a Steam launch. However, this answer confirms that a Nintendo Switch 2 port could very well happen, and other leading platforms can’t be ruled out either.
