2K having its own soccer (or football, depending on where you are) title would be huge. EA has had a firm grasp on the market for years and has little competition. A new internal promotion for a 2K employee raises more questions than answers.
Take-Two hasn’t exactly been silent on the rumors surrounding FIFA and 2K Sports. The company is allegedly open to the possibility, and even EA FC 25 devs aren’t afraid of potential FIFA 2K competition.
There’s been nothing official for a while, but some detective work reveals some interesting developments.
New Minds On ‘2K’s Next Blockbuster Sports Franchise’

Matt McKie worked at EA for over 4 years, starting as EA Sports FIFA’s senior manager for global product marketing, before eventually transitioning to EA Sports FIFA’s global brand director.
McKie moved on to huge roles with Nike, the International Olympic Committee, and Manchester United. But almost one year ago, they became a strategic advisor for 2K.
It wasn’t long before they became the company’s vice president of marketing. On November 25, as first spotted by FootballGamingZone, McKie let the whole world know about an important development on LinkedIn:
“Excited to start the next chapter of my career as Vice President of Marketing at 2K. We’re assembling a best-in-class team to fully realize our uncompromising vision for 2K’s next blockbuster sports franchise.“
That final line is very interesting.
Again, this is not Insider Gaming saying 2K is officially working on a 2K soccer game—far from it. But you can’t deny having a former EA director taking up such a new and prominent role in 2K, and discussing ‘2K’s next blockbuster sports franchise’ isn’t eye-catching.
You can now spend some time trying to figure out what this all means. Is it the wheels in motion for 2K’s long-awaited soccer game? A game that could potentially be the ‘new FIFA’? Share your thoughts and musings through the Insider Gaming Discord Server.
