How to Make it Rain in Pokémon Legends: Z-A—Weather Change, Explained

Pokémon Legends: Z-A may not have given weather effects the same importance that it has in previous titles, but knowing how to change the weather to rain is crucial for certain spawns and evolutions.

Of all the 230 Pokémon available in the Pokémon Legends: Z-A base game, some are particularly challenging to get your hands on due to requirements on the time of day and weather, making rain a necessity to complete the Pokédex.

If you’re anxiously waiting for the heavens to open in Pokémon Legends: Z-A and want to know how to change the weather without doing a rain dance, we’ve got you covered.

How to Change The Weather in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

The weather in Pokémon Legends: Z-A is changed by advancing time, which is done by sitting on the benches scattered around Lumiose City.

Several different types of weather are available in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the majority of which provide no impact other than aesthetics, except Rain, which is the only weather condition that Goomy and Sliggoo can be found around Lumiose City—although Goomy also has a guaranteed spawn point in the Lumiose Sewers.

Sliggoo also requires rain to evolve into Goodra, making the weather type even more important for players looking to complete the Pokédex, but the method of changing weather also changes the time of day, with some Pokémon requiring day or night to evolve.

To change the weather in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, follow these steps:

  1. Find a bench in Lumiose City.
  2. Press A to interact with the bench.
  3. Choose the ‘Kill Some Time Here’ Option.
  4. Select ‘Yes’ when asked ‘Do you want to hang out here until morning/night?’
  5. Wait for the game to load.
  6. Repeat the process until the desired weather spawns.

Can You Force Rain in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

No, there is no way to force rain to occur in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Instead, it’s all down to chance, and, even when it does rain, it won’t last a full day.

Rain in Pokémon Legends: Z-A only lasts for short periods, giving you a small window to utilize the weather accordingly. This does mean, however, that if you get frustrated with rinsing and repeating the bench method, you can go around doing other tasks in the game, while waiting for rain to occur.

The only situation we’ve encountered where rain is forced is in a particular Side Mission that serves as an introduction to weather effects in battle, but in our experience, the rain disappeared as soon as the battle was completed.
