Pokémon Legends: Z-A offers a bunch of rewards to claim from pre-ordering and purchasing the title, many of which are distributed via codes, so there’s a bit of manual work required to receive pre-order bonus items.
Following on from the success of its predecessor, Legends: Arceus, Legends: Z-A brings the Pokémon franchise back to Kalos and Lumiose City, with the major shake-up in the title being new battle mechanics that completely erase the standard turn-based formula.

How to Redeem Codes in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
The ability to input codes to receive rewards is not immediately available in Pokémon Legends: Z-A and requires progression through the early parts of the game before online access is enabled.
You need to complete the first few missions in Legends: Z-A before the feature is unlocked, including meeting Team MZ at Hotel Z, winning your first few battles, and catching a handful of Pokémon. Once you have met Mable and complete your first Research Task, online features are available.
Once you have unlocked the online features and code redemption, follow these steps:
- Open the Main Menu (X on your Switch console).
- Select ‘Link Play’.
- Choose the ‘Mystery Gift’ option.
- Select ‘Get With Code/Password’.
- Type out your code and hit enter.
- Claim your rewards.
How to Claim Pre-Order Bonuses in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Just like code redemption, claiming pre-order bonuses is not immediately available in Pokémon Legends: Z-A and you must progress through the story to unlock online features.
As detailed above, it takes around one hour of playtime through the early stages of Legends: Z-A until online features are unlocked, and you need to ensure your console is connected to the internet.
However, unlike code redemption, you don’t need to manually enter anything to claim your pre-order rewards, as they are instead distributed via the Mystery Gift feature. Follow these steps to get there.
- Open the Main Menu (X on your Switch console).
- Select ‘Link Play’.
- Choose the ‘Mystery Gift’ option.
- Select ‘Get via Internet’ or ‘Check Mystery Gifts’.
- The system will check that you are connected to the internet.
- Select the reward you wait to receive.
