Mojang has lifted the lid on Mounts of Mayhem, the next big Minecraft game drop coming later this year. It features an all-new Spear weapon, an underwater mount called the Nautilus, and for the first time, Zombie Horses are coming to Survival. It’s a jam-packed update that was revealed during Minecraft Live, but when is Mounts of Mayhem being released?
If you’re eager to dive under the waves aboard a Nautilus or hunt down a Zombie Horse in Survival (and not Creative), then read on to learn everything you need to know.
Everything We Know About Mounts of Mayhem
Mounts of Mayhem is coming to Minecraft later this year and will be added to the game before 2025 is over. We don’t have a specific date at the time of publishing, but you definitely don’t have long to wait!
In 2025, with the arrival of Mounts of Mayhem, Mojang is allowing players to find and craft the Spear, an all-new tiered weapon that can be used to joust on horses, charge at enemies, or jab wildly at mobs. In a blog post, Mojang explained how diverse the Spear will be:
And of course, the spear’s uses aren’t limited to mounts, either. There are plenty of ways you can satisfy your need for speed in Minecraft. Wield it wearing elytra. Wield it in a minecart. In fact, I’ll leave it up to you to discover all the ways you can use the spear for maximum power, because it’ll be coming for testing soon enough.
Zombie Horses have been in Creative Mode for more than a decade, but with Mounts of Mayhem, they’re finally coming to Survival. They’ll take up a passive spot in the map (in savannah and plains biomes), and they’ll be mounted by bloodthirsty zombies.
The most exciting addition coming with the Mounts of Mayhem game drop is the Nautilus, a fresh, underwater-dwelling creature that can be mounted and used like a submarine. When aboard a Nautilus, you gain the Breath of the Nautilus effect, which allows you to hold your breath indefinitely while exploring the murky depths of Minecraft.
You’ll be able to throw armor on the Nautilus too, if you want to keep it alive and kicking (swimming?) for as long as possible.
Oh, and there’s a Zombie Nautilus variant that roams the waters, swimming at high speed and being favored by the Drowned as a mount option.
We’ll likely have a drop date for Mounts of Mayhem soon, so stay tuned!
