The Best-Selling PS1 Games Of All Time

The original PlayStation (PS1) has been around for over 30 years now, and there’s been no shortage of fantastic titles to be released on the system. The system saw a new company enter the mix after being spurned by Nintendo, and join a console race that they continue to thrive into this day. But what games from the first generation went on to become major hits? These are the best-selling PS1 games of all time.

The data below comes from Circana, and focuses solely on sales in the United States. As mentioned, it’s also just a list of best-selling PS1 games. However, you can check out the top-selling PlayStation games (all generations) if you’d like.

Best-Selling PS1 Games Ever

With the original PlayStation being available before the days of Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Battle Royales, there was a larger chance for variety in sales. The best-selling games ranged in genres from racing to sports to platforming and more, making it, to many, one of the best times to be a gamer.

And with the transition to 3D, there were a lot of studios that took chances with games. Some paid off in big ways while others—looking at you, Bubsy 3D—failed to make an impression. Games were released on PS1 in North America until 2004, meaning that there was nearly a decade of games to play for the console.

  • The only one that surprises me, in a good way, is Frogger!! I always knew the others on the lists were considered classics and best selling, but I never imagined Frogger would be up there, beating out FF9, Legend of Dragoon, Jet Moto 2 and Tomba.
