You must progress through Cronos: The New Dawn until you reach the “Search the hardware store” objective. Inside the building is where you’ll find the bolt cutters, after defeating a tough enemy.
It’s hard to explain this in thorough detail, as Cronos doesn’t use a proper map system. However, the bolt cutters are in an unmissable hardware store, and they’re a compulsory item needed to “Access the elevator.“
Here’s a quick walkthrough to make things easy:
- Journey through Cronos: The New Dawn until you need to head for the game’s first Dive Point.
- This won’t happen for roughly a couple of hours of gameplay, so don’t worry about chained doors until this point.
- To access a locked elevator in a derelict building, you need to first Search the hardware store.
- The hardware store entrance requires you to shimmy through a gap in the front doors.
- You need to have found the Hardware Store Key to enter the main room.
- Be warned: A tough enemy awaits—so make sure you’re stocked up on ammo and health.
- By the locked back door is an open window to the left.
- Look through the window and shoot the gas canister on the other side.
- Defeat the enemy that smashes through the door—or quickly grab the bolt cutters and run for the locked door!
