New enemy types are waiting to be taken out in Helldivers 2’s latest patch, including an aerial Terminid threat in the form of the Dragon Roach.
The latest Helldivers 2 update on September 2 introduced plenty of new additions, including the powerful Hive Lord to take out at high difficulty levels and missions to destroy the Spore Lung.
If you’ve encountered the deadly Dragon Roach and need some advice on how to take it out, we’ve got some tips and loadout suggestions for you.
How to Kill Dragon Roaches in Helldivers 2

Dragon Roaches are much easier to kill than the Illuminate Stingray ships, which are armored, and usual weapons will do the trick.
Avoiding the Dragon Roaches’ swooping attack is key. Much like the Stingray’s bombing runs, being hit by the acid attack will kill you immediately. Therefore, this enemy is much easier to defeat in a full group of players.
When you locate a Dragon Roach, take any opportunity to unleash fire. As it’s not armored, bullets and lasers are just as effective as explosives. However, be prepared to dive out of the way to avoid the attack.
If you can afford to spread out from your squad, you should be able to defeat the Dragon Roach quicker, as other players can continue to attack while you dive out of the way. Just be wary of any Bug Breaches and incoming hordes of Terminids.
When you focus your attacks on the Dragon Roach, it shouldn’t take too long to take out, and a swarm of other enemies is blindsiding the biggest threat.
Best Loadouts to Kill Dragon Roaches in Helldivers 2
Most weapons in Helldivers 2 are effective in taking down Dragon Roaches, but I’ve found the Recoilless Rifle to be the best bet.
Stratagems like Sentry guns are also useful, particularly non-automated ones that you can aim, just beware of the acid attack if you adopt this method.
By far the best approach, however, is to use an Exosuit. Not only are they packed full of all the firepower you need to take down Dragon Roaches, they’ll also protect you from the acid attacks without needing to dive out of the way.
