Battlefield 6 Doesn’t Have Ray Tracing, and It Might Not Get It For a Long Time

Battlefield 6 is nothing if not impressive at first blush, boasting grand destruction mechanics, sumptuous visuals, and the high-octane combat vibe we’ve come to expect from the franchise. However, for all the boxes ticked by Battlefield 6, some high-end PC players have remarked that Battlefield 6 is missing a key element – it doesn’t have ray tracing.

In a recent interview, it was confirmed that the lack of ray tracing in Battlefield 6 is a very conscious and critical decision by Electronic Arts’ teams, and it might not surface for a very long time.

Why Doesn’t Battlefield 6 Have Ray Tracing?

In an exclusive interview with ComicBook, it was revealed by Christian Buhl, Ripple Effect’s technical director, that ray tracing won’t be incorporated into Battlefield 6 at launch, despite the game boasting hundreds of customization options.

He stressed it’s a technically-led decision that will ensure more important features are prioritized:

No, we are not going to have ray-tracing when the game launches and we don’t have any plans in the near future for it either.

That was because we wanted to focus on performance. We wanted to make sure that all of our effort was focused on making the game as optimized as possible for the default settings and the default users.

We just made the decision relatively early on that we just weren’t going to do ray-tracing and again, it was mostly so that we could focus on making sure it was performance for everyone else.

This means that neither the campaign, the multiplayer platform, nor the battle royale mode will have ray tracing mechanics on deck when Battlefield 6 is released on October 20.

It’s not a huge loss, as Battlefield 6 looks pretty damn good without ray tracing, but it’s one of those games that typically has such insane visuals that some players want to push the title to its limits, and that includes switching on elements like ray tracing.

Are you disappointed that Battlefield 6 won’t have ray tracing? Let me know what you’re thinking on the Insider Gaming forum.
