Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has a glittering array of weapons and Disciplines for you to try out. You’re taught the basics early on, and it’s up to you to master them. But default Parry and Block buttons are conspicuous by their absence in Wuchang, so let’s see if this is the case.
I could never parry in my early Souls days. My form of defence either came in the form of a small shield, or by rolling more than a Limp Bizkit song. Many modern-day releases include generous parry windows and the ability to properly dodge. Wuchang drills the fundamentals into you early on—especially with its unstoppable tutorial boss—and there’s a noticeable lack of something—parry or block mechanics.
You can dodge until the sun sets, that’s fine. But we’re here to see if Leenzee hasn’t been lenient from a blocking or parrying perspective.
How to Parry in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

The best way to parry in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is by unlocking the Sword Counter Discipline found in the Longsword section of the Skill Tree.
I have primarily dabbled in Axe and Longsword builds throughout Wuchang. Sword Counter might also lie in another weapon’s Skill Tree, or another skill has the same Deflect effect that is quintessentially parrying.
Either way, Sword Counter is my favorite Discipline in Wuchang. It has ‘Deflect,’ which has the following bonus: “Blocking the enemy’s weapon at the perfect time deflects the enemy’s move fully.” I would liken it to Sekiro or The First Berserker: Khazan, any other game with a parry function.
Hit the button to use Sword Counter at the right moment, and most damage is negated, and it can also make the enemy stumble, leaving them vulnerable to an attack or two. Better yet, the Steel Resolve skill gives you one stack of Skyborn Might every time you pull off a successful Deflect—but you do need to be above 50% Madness.
If a boss tries to light you up with a combo, there’s a chance you can parry most of the attacks, build up a nice reserve of Skyborn Might, and use this to unleash high-level magic or quicker Charged Attacks.
How to Block in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

You can Block if you use an Axe as your primary weapon, and assign the skill as your main Discipline.
Firstly, I find Axes to be one of the hardest weapons to use in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. They’re slow, and with enemies hitting so fast in this game, you’re relying on big combos, which leave you exposed, and they don’t offer much where Temperance is concerned. One advantage is being able to negate incoming flurries with the Block Discipline.
Again, I haven’t found this as an unlock for any other weapon class. If this changes, so might this guide. Right now, you can raise your Axe to block incoming damage—but it doesn’t prevent you from losing health.
All Block does is reduce the damage you incur. If you’re struggling with a particular boss attack, it might go some way to helping you. I’d recommend going for a Longsword and nailing the art of Deflecting, to be honest.
