If you’re a South Korean resident, you can no longer purchase EA FC currency or open lootboxes through microtransactions, as EA has stopped the sale of FC Points due to a South Korean law change.
EA FC signaled a name change for the long-running series. But most people know it as FIFA—I still call it FIFA—and a different name doesn’t suddenly change gameplay practices. Ultimate Team remained in the game, which meant you could still spend money to buy lootboxes and hope you get what you want (but never do).
A new South Korean law is seeking to increase transparency where lootboxes are concerned. EA has answered by giving up the sale of FC Points in South Korea.
EA FC 26 Removes In-Game Currency in South Korea

A translated post from Ruliweb highlighted that EA FC 26 can still be purchased in Korea: “But the game function (gacha) is locked.“
An update to Korean law also went into detail on “probabilistic items,” AKA lootboxes with chance factors. When you open a pack in EA FC’s Ultimate Team, there’s a probability indicator showing you the chances of getting a non-rare as your best card, a rare, or special items such as a Team of the Week or another promotional pull.
However, the updated South Korean legislation wants more granular detail to make sure players know what they’re getting when they open a pack (lootbox).
“A. Probabilistic items in which the type, grade, or performance of game items provided as probabilistic items that provide other game items when purchased or used (hereinafter referred to as “type grade performance”) are determined by chance factors: Probability information of supply by type, grade, or performance of all game items provided through the probabilistic items.
B. Random items that change the type of grade performance of other game items when purchased or used, and the result of the change is determined by chance factors: All types provided through the probabilistic item, supply probability information by result of change in performance
C. A probabilistic item that provides a game item with different type and grade performance by synthesizing multiple game items (including when a specific combination is completed or certain conditions are met, as follows in this table), and the type of game item provided as a result of synthesis A probabilistic item whose grade performance is determined by chance factors: Supply probability information for each synthesis result of the relevant probabilistic item.”
In layman’s terms, the law wants to know the probability of every card item in the pool. From a non-rare Silver player to a rare Gold consumable. It wants to know the exact chances of you obtaining an ICON Van Der Sar, ICON Campbell, ICON Gerrard, and so forth.
EA seems reluctant to disclose this information, hence the removal of microtransactions.
Should this information be universal? Do players have a right to know their odds of packing every player and item card in EA FC Ultimate Team? Share your full thoughts through the Insider Gaming forum.
