Marvel Rivals Director Says NetEase Will Add “Lesser-Known” Characters to Game as They Have Full License

The rise of the MCU over the last 10-15 years has made the brand as popular as ever. With Marvel Rivals continuing to dominate as a live-service shooter, it’s only natural that NetEase wants to keep adding new Marvel Rivals characters, but they won’t all be A-list stars.

When you think of Marvel, you think of Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk, Thanos, Captain America, and….Jack of Hearts? Once you’ve done looking up Jack of Hearts, you’ll get the picture: Many Marvel characters can make a superhero landing in the F2P title.

The Game’s director has talked about the developer’s approach to new heroes in Marvel Rivals.

Marvel Rivals Want You to “Discover New Aspects of Marvel”

In an interview with Video Gamer, game director Guangyun Chen says NetEase has been given complete license “To explore the full Marvel universe,” from Marvel’s 85-year history—and he does mean anyone.

Chen says NetEase won’t focus on “heavy-hitters” and will “shine a light on some lesser-known yet equally fascinating characters.”

As I said, while we are likely to see Ant-Man, Vision, and many other big-time players as Marvel Rivals characters, it’s fun seeing Marvel’s other work. After all, don’t we want more Jeff the Land Shark-type characters? Surely we want Hit-Monkey and Doctor Bong to eliminate Black Panther and Star-Lord?

If NetEase continues to get its way, Chen will deliver fun surprises and allow “Players to experience the Marvel Universe from other unique and enjoyable perspectives” and offer “a chance to discover new aspects of Marvel.”

Which characters do you want to see in Marvel Rivals? Is it more fun having obscure characters that most casuals have never heard of? Let us know who you want to see added in down in the comments, and create some fun Marvel Rivals conversations via the Insider Gaming forum.
