Palworld has received another significant content update in the Tides of Terraria update, with one of the major new features being the introduction of Fishing.
Launched June 25, the Tides of Terraria update in Palworld features a bunch of new Pals and crossover content with Terraria, alongside some core gameplay tweaks.
Some Pals can only be caught by fishing, and there are particular mechanics to master. Fear not, though, we’re here to help you become a master angler.
How to Unlock and Craft Fishing Rods in Palworld

Fishing Rods are not a basic item in Palworld that unlocks immediately. Instead, if you’re a new player, there’s a fair bit of grinding before you can craft the equipment.
The lowest-level Fishing Rod is available from level 15, with higher tiers of the piece of equipment unlocking at level 29 and 45. As the tiers increase, so do the crafting requirements.
For example, the Advancing Fishing Rod requires Pal Metal Ingot and Carbon Fibre, two materials that are not easily obtained without establishing a supply line.
| Name | Unlock Level | Crafting Materials |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner Fishing Set | 15 | 10x Paldium Fragment 3x Pal Fluids 8x Ingot 8x Fiber |
| Intermediate Fishing Rod (Cattiva) | 29 | 30x Paldium Fragments 10x High Quality Pal Oil 10x Cement 30x Fiber |
| Advanced Fishing Rod (Pengullet) | 45 | 70x Paldium Fragment 20x High Quality Pal Oil 15x Pal Metal Ingot 30x Carbon Fiber |
How to Use Fishing Rods in Palworld
A Fishing Rod isn’t the only item required for fishing in Palworld, as you also need to craft and have bait in your inventory to cast a line. There are several tiers of Bait quality, with High Quality Bait, for example, requiring Pal Fluids, Tomato, and Flour to craft.
With a Fishing Rod and Bait in your inventory, find any body of water and look for shadows beneath the surface, indicating there are Pals to reel in. Keep an eye out for glowing shadows, in particular, which mark rarer Pals.
Cast your line by aiming and firing (RMB on PC, followed by LMB/LT on Xbox, followed by RT/L2 on PlayStation, followed by R2). As soon as a Pal is hooked, click the fire button again.
The goal is to keep the marker in the middle of the green bar, holding the fire button when it moves to the right and releasing it when it moves to the left. Once the circle above the bar is filled, the Pal is caught.
Crafting a Fishing Pond in your base allows Pals with Handiwork skills to catch fish for you, though this can take a long time as a Medium Fish Shadow, not even the largest, takes over 18 minutes to catch.
