The senior producer for the upcoming Battlefield title has discussed how the Civil War and Dead Space inspired the game’s campaign.
During an interview with Inverse, upcoming Battlefield senior producer Philippe Ducharme mentioned Alex Garland’s 2024 movie Civil War. Ducharme stated that Civil War is a “good reference” for some of the things the developers are “pushing [in this game].” The creative director, Roman Campos-Oriola, added that they are “really interested in the concept of talented but ordinary people put in extraordinary situations.”
For those out of the loop, Civil War is a movie set in a dystopian future America. It features a team of military-embedded journalists racing against time to reach Washington, D.C., before the rebel faction takes over the White House.
The senior producer for the upcoming Battlefield title also spoke on how Dead Space has impacted the game. During the development of Dead Space, the developers learned about “the curve of tension “ and how to transition from one beat to another while “having the highs and the lows to keep players hooked, ” which they might implement in the next Battlefield campaign.
Ducharme explained that “It is obviously very different in a game like Battlefield,” but they were able to bring the mentality over from Dead Space.
In other news, a new Battlefield Labs gameplay leak confirmed the return of a Battlefield 5 gameplay mechanic; however, it somehow looks worse. Also, EA is more optimistic about Battlefield now that GTA 6 has been delayed.
