DOOM: The Dark Ages Chapter 5 sees you mount your dragon for the first time. Thankfully, it’s already trained, and while you’re exploring the Holy City of Aratum level, there are two secret landing spots to find for a nice reward in DOOM.
We’ve gone from the early days of DOOM in 1993, killing lowly imps around research facilities, to riding full-blown dragons around a huge city infested with demons, hordes, and other ungodly horrors in The Dark Ages. 2025’s DOOM features many Chapters, and lots of them have certain missions you can accomplish.
The Holy City of Aratum in Chapter 5 has a wide berth to explore. If you’re having trouble locating one or more of DOOM’s secret landing spots, let’s help you out.
Where is The First Secret Landing Zone in Holy City of Aratum Chapter 5?
The first secret landing zone I came across (and you are likely to as well) is slightly west of the main hub area once you complete the tutorial section.
You begin the level by learning how to fly the dragon, use its weapons, and so forth. Eventually, you watch a cutscene, and the Doomslayer and his pet dragon arrive at the Holy City of Aratum.
From here, let’s show you what to do in The Dark Ages:
- The cutscene should finish, you arrive at the destination, and the game gives you the: Destroy the Hell Carriers Objective.
- From here, turn 45 degrees northwest.
- Head in a straight line with a bit of altitude.
- You should eventually see a tall demon on top of a tower.
- Defeat it in a battle—dodging the green laser shots to power your weapon.
- Once you’ve done this, the green marker indicating you can land should appear.
- This is the first secret landing zone.
Where is The Second Secret Landing Zone in Holy City of Aratum Chapter 5?
The second landing zone is very easy to miss as it’s in the middle of the Holy City of Aratum, tucked away right at the very bottom of the map in DOOM: The Dark Ages.
I won’t lie, I spent ages looking for this landing zone. I found all the Secret Areas, Gold, and cultist circles, but couldn’t find this for love nor money. However, with an easy method, you’ll have no issue.
Read these steps for more information about how to find it:
- Go back to the starting location once you reach the city.
- Move forward in a straight line—be careful of Hell Carriers if you’re not ready to interact with them.
- Squeeze between two towers and stop short of the platform in the middle, covered in trees.
- Descend to the very bottom of this area.
- Defeat the two large demons guarding it.
- The green landing marker should appear soon after the second enemy is vanquished.
Layover Challenge & Reward in DOOM: The Dark Ages
The Holy City of Aratum “Layover” Chapter 5 challenge requires you to “Dismount the Dragon at two secret Landing Zones.” If you do this, you receive 50 Gold.
Challenges are a fun distraction in Chapters. Anything giving you more Gold or currency is something you need to be doing. With this guide, you should have no problem ticking off Layover from the list!
