After Cuphead’s barnstorming success, Studio MDHR seems to be working on an unannounced project, and the hunt for a new programmer with years of experience points us in this direction.
From the second Cuphead was announced, it was destined to be a great success. Its 2014 E3 showing wowed everyone with its rarely-utilized rubber-hose animation popularized by the 20s and 30s. Add to that its compelling boss-centric gameplay and co-op elements, and Studio MDHR (founded by the Moldenhauer brothers) was onto something.
The original game and The Delicious Last Course DLC have sold nearly ten million copies between them. There’s also a Netflix adaptation of the show with three full seasons. But now it could be time for the next chapter.
It Doesn’t Mean We’re Getting Cuphead 2

Studio MDHR is “Hiring another Senior Unity Programmer with experience working on games filled with character action, enemies, and boss combat.“
Call me crazy, but these requirements sound familiar. The full job role states that the team is looking for someone who can “Join the studio to help us shape the foundation of our next big project.“
After studying the role’s verbiage, I can confirm there’s no mention or hint of Cuphead 2. This doesn’t mean Studio MDHR isn’t working on this as the next game, we just can’t say with certainty. But the finer details in the description ask for a certain quality: “A sense of craftsmanship: you invest love and care into the little details that people may not notice.“
Cuphead bosses and the run-and-gun levels are rife with this. I think I speak for many when I say Cuphead 2 is more than welcome, so we’ll continue to monitor what Studio MDHR is up to.
This just in!! We’re hiring another Senior Unity Programmer with experience working on games filled with character action, enemies, and boss combat. Find out more at studiomdhr.com/careers/, and reach out to brent [at] grcoo [dot] com if this looks like the job for you.
Does it sound like work on Cuphead 2 is ongoing? Or is Studio MDHR looking to make something similar but with fresh characters and a new story? Let us know through the Insider Gaming forum.
