Xbox is set to get a new game from a “legendary Japanese IP” in 2025. According to a new report from Jez Corden of Windows Central, the mystery game during Xbox’s upcoming Developer Direct will be from a classic Japanese franchise.
Corden didn’t spoil anything regarding what the game may be, but did say it has “decades of history”.
“[Our] sources indicate that it is a new entry in a legendary Japanese IP which has decades of history, and should make a lot of fans happy,” he said.
He continued: “Indeed, Microsoft has won some strong support from the region lately from studios like Square Enix for Final Fantasy, HoYoverse for Genshin Impact, and Sega/ATLUS for Persona, and we suspect this new game will help further that trend.”
Aside from the unknown Japanese title, the Xbox Developer Direct on January 23 will feature looks at games like South of Midnight, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and DOOM: The Dark Ages.

“Presented by the game creators themselves, Developer_Direct offers an in-depth look at upcoming titles, how they’re being created, and who’s creating them,” Xbox says.
In addition to the four games expected to be shown during the event, Xbox is gearing up for a strong 2025. The company also has Avowed scheduled to release in February as well as the reboot of Fable expected to launch sometime this year.

My guess is Tenchu since they own some of that franchises old games maybe a remake. Other guesses are MegaMan, Castlevania, Dino Crisis, Dead Or Alive, Chrono Trigger, Shenmue, or Ninja Gaiden. Previous leakers claimed a new Ninja Gaiden from Platinum was happening others said they’re also working with Capcom and Mikami on a remake, for years now we’ve heard a new MegaMan is happening, and Jez said years ago a new Castlevania was happening. If it’s not legendary call Jez out again for lying and overhyping as usual especially if he’s still using X after all his whining go to BlueSky.
So no Elder Scrolls Oblivion remake? Still no games published by Xbox where’s Contraband, State Of Decay 3, Project Dragon, Wu Tang game, Clockwork Revolution, Double Fine’s other project, Infinity Ward’s non Call Of Duty game, Wolfenstein 3, Everwild, Banjo remake, Perfect Dark, Ark 2, all those games silence.
Microsoft normally drops the ball hard and Jez is even worse. It either doesn’t happen or maybe Sonic Heroes remake here? Persona 6 would also be lackluster after all this hype. It’s clear Jez doesn’t really get the audience and he doesn’t play games same with most journos and insiders.
He didn’t say gaming IP is this the new Shonen Jump crossover game? A new Arc System Works fighting game from Bandai Namco One Piece maybe? Someone leak it ahead of time
When can we expect actual big announcements the generation is almost over and it’s been really bad so far. I was hoping Nintendo would usher in hype but it seems they’re going the Sony route of console reveal, then boring Direct with Mario Kart and ports, then maybe whatever the next 3D Mario is. Save yourself money wait for 2028 for all this to go down in price none of the consoles are worth it.
It’s Persona 6 and a good chunk of the Atlus Persona staff left
This isn’t “Microsoft getting support”, this is Japanese companies realizing the price of the PS5 killed 3rd party console exclusives.
It’s Persona 6 not a lot of hype the teams who worked on 1-5 are gone
He said IP not game IP so is this a long rumored One Piece Arc System Works game or Shonen Jump crossover game since Jump Force was over 5 years ago and we’ve heard nothing. Maybe it’s Art Of Fighters or another SNK game they have other games they’ve been making outside fighters.
So it’s not Otogi then…….but the xbots overhyped things too much
I think it’s ninja gaiden
That nick guy the other xbox leaker said Platinum was making a new Ninja Gaiden so maybe? But nick lies a lot too he also said Killer Instinct was coming back the Xbox fighters that need a comeback are Tao Geng and Kakuto Chojin and I’d rather Itagaki come back and bring Dead Or Alive and Ninja Gaiden back maybe go open world with Ninja Gaiden.
It’s Ecco or Persona 6 and its multi platform Xbox is some kind of tax scam now.
The only big announcement that would save the show is Kingdom Hearts 4 where is that?! Where’s Missing Link?
Square Enix is on Ubisoft time they announced games but have no AAA games in development outside Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy they’re relying on that game the most they had higher hopes for Rebirth and 16 they might not make it to 2027 the company may close or sell off. They wasted a ton of money paying people off or feeding them bad info for cope and content creation.
The Shonen Jump games were cancelled by Bandai Namco any hope of a follow up to Jump Force isn’t happening Bandai listened to certain influencer and that led to the cancellation of that, the poor handling of Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, and it’s possible they cancelled the Arc System Works project too. Arc System Works might have something else by the end of the generation with another publisher or they just stick with Double Dragon and publishing that ending the gen on that. Another problem is said influencer made Bandai and more so the Tekken team think Clive from Final Fantasy 16 would be a huge plus to Tekken a lot of the problems with them were this influencer who’s also been a problem industry wise with their agenda. Not sure about how Bleach is handled but it looks rough they may have DLC trouble with that too. Anime fans should stick to Sega with Demon Slayer The Hinokami Chronicles 2 they’ll deliver, Bushiroad might back more money on those games with HunterXHunter, and CyGames may be looking to do something with Kagurabachi and Chainsaw Man in video game form since they’re tied to the anime production.
