On the official ESRB site, Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition now has a Teen rating for PlayStation 5 and the Nintendo Switch.
The ratings summary does mostly break down gameplay basics. But it also mentions “behind-the-scenes content” and a “handful of art-gallery images, since they include some “suggestive” material. This hints that the anniversary edition could include quite a few special features.
This week, Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition also got fresh ratings in Taiwan for current and last-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as the Switch.
So, although there’s no concrete release date just yet, there may be an official announcement coming sometime soon. Earlier this week, original developer Team17 also shared a Gamescom 2024 video, acknowledging that Worms Armageddon is “still thriving 25 years later.”
UPDATE – Team17 announced Worms Armageddon Anniversary Edition with a new trailer, and it will launch on September 26, 2024.
The original Worms Armageddon first launched in the 90’s, eventually releasing on platforms like the Dreamcast, Game Boy Color, and Nintendo 64.
Worms Armageddon remains a beloved staple of the series, as well as the industry itself, praised for its creative and cartoonish turn-based action.
The most recent games in the series include Worms W.M.D from 2016 and Worms Rumble in 2020.
The former launched to decent reviews, and still has a 7.5 from critics and users alike on Metacritic. However, Worms Rumble received very mixed reviews.
So, fans may be pleased to revisit Worms Armageddon soon after its ESRB rating. Since its rating applies to the Switch, an official announcement might arrive during Nintendo’s upcoming showcases today.
