Marathon is an upcoming extraction shooter from Bungie, and gamers worldwide are eagerly anticipating its arrival. It’s set to disrupt the extraction genre by offering something unique, but as with most games releasing these days, players have one question on their minds: Will Marathon be on Game Pass when it’s released?
Marathon is one of the only extraction shooters to be released on console as well as on PC platforms. That alone is enough to excite Xbox and PlayStation gamers, but has Bungie partnered with a tech titan to bring Marathon to a subscription service like Game Pass or PlayStation Plus?
Let’s find out.
Is Marathon Coming to Xbox Game Pass?
It’s yet to be confirmed either way, but it’s almost guaranteed that Marathon will not be released on the Xbox Game Pass service at launch. This would be a remarkable win for Microsoft, but there have been absolutely no indications that it’ll be released on the service when it hits the market this year.
This is bolstered by the fact that it’s also being released on PlayStation 5 at the same time as it is on Xbox and PC platforms.
That might disappoint some potential players, but not everything can make its way to the Xbox Game Pass subscription service.
Why is Marathon an Extraction Shooter?
That’s a great question, and it’s very applicable given that many extraction shooters have come and gone over the years.
The extraction shooter genre is an exciting one, and it offers intense experiences that are typically more challenging than what you’ll find in your average shooter.
Extraction shooters are still remarkably popular, even if the top dog in Escape from Tarkov keeps contenders from moving too far up the pecking order. All it’ll take is one solid competitor to tackle Escape from Tarkov, and Bungie is the biggest name in gaming to make a play for an extraction shooter title in a long time.
Marathon looks as though it has legs, and it’ll be able to at least threaten Escape from Tarkov, even if Bungie is more interested in making a unique game than directly competing with Tarkov.
