Who is Flemeth in Dragon Age Lore?

From its humble beginnings of Dragon Age: Origins, the renowned RPG franchise introduced the world to countless iconic and memorable characters over the years. One that made a huge impact on launch but was ultimately pushed to the wayside by other, more memorable characters like Morrigan was Flemeth. But who is Flemeth in Dragon Age lore?

Be wary of story spoilers!

Who is Flemeth?

Flemeth, often referred to as the Witch of the Wilds, is a shapeshifter first introduced in Dragon Age: Origins. She’s had a role in the overarching story of Dragon Age since the first game, with guest appearances in many of the franchise’s titles, books, comics, and more.

Flemeth in Dragon Age is said to be an all-powerful being, likely immortal, with numerous powerful daughters who all were born as witches like her. Her daughter, Morrigan, is the most well-known of the bunch.

Following her husband’s untimely demise, Flemeth swore vengeance upon those who took the man from her. She conferred with spirits, then with a demon in the Wilds. It’s said this demon granted her the powers she wields today; an opportunity to defend herself and enact her revenge upon the Lord who took her husband’s life. But vengeance wasn’t enough, as Flemeth is said to have raised a Chasind army with her sights set on the lowlands.

Despite claims from the locals of the Korcari Wilds that her title, Witch of the Wilds, is simply superstition, it’s said that Flemeth can transform into a High Dragon at will. In this form, she towers above all else, with an impressive wing span and immense powers.

The Chasind tells stories of a great dragon, Flemeth, whom people turn to when they seek vengeance. But Flemeth’s version of vengeance doesn’t often align with the individual’s request, and most regret their desires.

Is Flemeth in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?

While it’s not officially confirmed yet, the dragon repeatedly shown in screenshots, artwork, and the various game trailers appears to be similar in design to Flemeth’s High Dragon form. It’s most likely her, as she returns frequently to influence the happenings of Thedas.

She made a slight appearance in Dragon Age: Inquisition, which pointed toward her appearance in The Veilguard.
