Trading has been one of the most desired new features since Pokémon TCG Pocket launched. Thankfully, the Trading launch date has been confirmed. We know when it’s coming, and how it’s going to work, and it’s only a matter of time before you can start filling in those pesky blanks in your collection.
Around 300 cards now populate Pokémon TCG Pocket. Between Genetic Apex, Mythical Island, and Promo Cards, the community has had a ton of collecting to do. Wonder Picks help, but you likely have tons of duplicates. Getting extras of the same card is crucial when it comes to Flair in Pokémon TCG Pocket, but it can become an annoyance too.
You can swap duplicates in real life—one area where the physical edition of the Pokémon TCG differs from the virtual format. This changes very soon though, and here’s everything we know about Pocket’s Trading.
Trading in Pokémon TCG Pocket Release Period
Trading is coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket by the end of January.
The news was announced by the Pokémon TCG Pocket X social media page—confirming the prior January Pokémon TCG Pocket Trading report. The X post said, “We wanted to provide more details on the new trade feature coming your way this month.
There’s no exact release date, and it may have taken a few months, but Trading is coming soon, and should be here to stay.
Which Cards Can be Traded in Pokémon TCG Pocket?
Trades of the same rarity can happen, from Genetic Apex or Mythical Island, and the card needs to be either one to four-Diamond or one-star.
So, not all cards can be Traded on day one, and it does mean certain cards need to wait a bit longer.
Here are the full conditions for Trading (at present) in Pokémon TCG Pocket:
- Trades are done between Friends.
- Trades need to be of the same rarity.
- Genetic Apex and Mythical Island cards can be traded.
- It doesn’t look like Promo Cards can be traded.
- Has to be a One-Four-Diamond or 1-Star Rating—no higher for the time being.
- “Items must be consumed in order to Trade.”
Unfortunately, like many players, I find myself in the situation where I have completed most of the main Genetic Apex set, and I’m mainly missing the odd EX card, as well as Full Arts. The Pokémon Company likely doesn’t want so many people having every card already, and it encourages players to spend more money and open more packs in a bid to pull the rarest cards.
Also, don’t be surprised if Gold Crown cards are never made Tradeable in Pokémon TCG Pocket. We’ll update this as we learn more about the card criteria for Trading.
How to Trade in Pokémon TCG Pocket
The actual Trading process hasn’t been outlined yet, but we wager a similar system to Pokémon GO is likely to be employed: Direct, one-to-one Trading between friends.
Pokémon GO requires Stardust to Trade—with certain cards made untradable altogether—and I expect you probably need a certain amount of Shinedust to Trade in Pokémon Pocket. The amount likely depends on the rarity of the creature, and Trading may be limited to a certain amount per day. This is all conjecture, for now, so stay tuned.
