The Last of Us premiered on screens worldwide on January 16, 2023, and ever since, fans have been clamouring for the second season of the show. This award-winning live-action adaptation is up there with the best of them, and despite some casting concerns, it’s one of the best video game adaptations ever made, which is a credit to HBO’s abilities.
Fans are now asking the all-important question once again: ‘When is The Last of Us season 2 coming out?’

The Last of Us Season 2 Release Date
It has been confirmed that The Last of Us season 2 will debut in April 2025, but the exact date hasn’t been confirmed by HBO or any associated broadcasters.
The long-awaited second season of the Emmy Award-winning, post-apocalyptic epic will explore the events of The Last of Us Part II (2020), but the expectation is that it’ll give way to much more original content. Fans have a sense of trepidation concerning the portrayal of certain early-game events, which I won’t spoil here, but it’s assumed that the showrunners will avoid certain scenarios unfolding for at least a few episodes.
There’s a hefty time jump between The Last of Us Part I and Part II that remains mostly unexplored, so this is a great opportunity for Naughty Dog and HBO to explore that gulf and create original storylines that fans can enjoy.
In The Last of Us’ first season, showrunners gave an entire episode to Bill and Frank, unlikely lovers who found each other in the midst of a world-breaking apocalypse. This episode won awards by itself and became known as one of the most emotional and beautiful sequences in the show, and it’d be great to see more of that in the second season.
