What Was Microsoft’s Reaction To The PS5 When It Was Revealed?

As the leaks continue from the Microsoft vs. FTC case, one larger email that was posted online is a conversation within Microsoft about the reveal of the PlayStation 5 (PS5) and the company’s reaction to it.

In emails between Xbox boss Phill Spencer, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and Microsoft CFO Amy Hood, the executives can be read discussing the comparisons between the PS5 and the Xbox Series X.

Spencer admitted he was nervous about Sony’s reveal before stating that he believed Microsoft had the better console, features, and more.

“Now after almost 12 hours of soaking in their unveil, taking apart their specs and looking at the community responses I just wanted to say that I’m proud of our team,” Spencer said in the March 2020 email.

“We have a better product than Sony does, not just on hardware but equally important on the software platform and services on top of the hardware. We have the ingredients of a winning plan.”

As of writing, Microsoft has refused to comment on the leaks. The FTC, on the other hand, has publicly placed the blame on Microsoft. In addition, all of the documents that were publicly available have been removed.
