I don’t know about you, but ever since the announcement of Shattered Space, I’ve wanted to know the player-level requirements. I have a high-level character, as I’m sure many of you do, but sometimes you want to start a new game for such a massive expansion. So, here’s what you should know about the Shattered Space level requirements!
Recommended Level for Shattered Space
It’s recommended that you have a character at level 35 for Shattered Space. If you don’t have a character at the appropriate level, you’ll want to grind through as much of the game’s side quests and content as possible beforehand.
Once you finish the introductory quest, One Small Step, the first time you jump into a system devoid of a mission or random encounter, you’ll receive a distress transmission point to a brand-new star station, The Oracle. This is the start of Shattered Space!

Do You Need to Complete the Main Story Before Shattered Space?
You do not need to finish the main Starfield storyline to start Shattered Space, only the game’s first quest, One Small Step. It’s enough to reach the appropriate level for the content, as Va’ruun’kai is a mid-level planet and star system, which means if you’re too low level, you might find the enemies challenging until you reach level 35.
Do You Need the Rev-8 for Va’ruun?
Va’ruun’kai is a large planet with a lot of handcrafted content to explore, along with the usual procedural generation of the other Starfield planets, so it would help if you have access to the Rev-8 vehicle to explore. That said, it’s not a requirement. You can get by in Shattered Space by walking or traveling via starship!

We recently took an introspective look at Starfield, specifically on whether Shattered Space will save the game, so that’s definitely worth a read! I am biased, though.
