Warner Bros. Games Acquires MultiVersus Developer Player First Games

MultiVersus developer Player First Games has been officially acquired by Warner Bros. Games.

The news comes ahead of the launch of MultiVersus Season 2, which goes live on July 23.

“Our team is excited to join the Warner Bros. Games family, and we feel that this will be great for MultiVersus overall,” Player First Games co-founder Tony Huynh said in a media release.

“We are working to make the MultiVersus game experience the best it can be and having our development team integrated with the publisher is optimum for the players.”

Warner Bros. Games president David Haddad added: “We have worked with Player First Games over several years to create and launch MultiVersus, and we are very pleased to welcome this talented team to Warner Bros. Games. The bright and creative team at Player First Games adds to our extensive development capabilities.”

Both Huynh and fellow co-founder Chris White will remain as the leadership of the studio.

As mentioned, MultiVersus Season 2 begins on July 23. Joining the game’s roster are Samurai Jack and Beetlejuice.

  • They should have had an in house team make this all along but now that they own them hopefully it means more studios can assist with it so content releases faster and of higher quality. WB Montreal and TT can help. This does mean more layoffs and shut downs on the way so Netherrealm and Rocksteady should be alert.

  • This explains the layoffs at NRS and it could get worse WB just matched Amazon’s near $2 billion offer for NBA rights that could mean closures of studios. Rocksteady, WB Montreal, NRS, and Monolith need to be on alert this could be it. Multiversus is what WB wants to make not singular games anymore.

  • This isn’t good for Netherrealm I don’t see WB keeping them and a platform fighter studio around at the same time.
