Visual Concepts South, a division of 2K’s Visual Concepts studio, has been hit with a wave of layoffs. The layoffs broke late last week while many were focused on the events surrounding Gamescom.
“My heart is aching,” 3D artist Katlynn Woodward posted on Twitter. “The majority of my team that I worked on Lego 2K Drive with were laid off this week. Less than a year after I was laid off along with countless others.”
Visual Concepts South, as you may have guessed from the above post, was known for being the main studio behind 2023’s Lego 2K Drive. The developers also contributed in development of the NBA 2K series.
“Unfortunately, like many of my colleagues, I was affected by the recent layoffs,” VFX artist Arnold Song wrote on LinkedIn.
It’s unknown currently how many people were impacted by these layoffs at Visual Concepts South. Insider Gaming has reached out multiple times to 2K for comment, but no response has been received.
In 2024, over 11,700 people have been impacted by layoffs in the gaming industry across at least 130 companies.
