Valorant will reportedly not be included for the Esports World Cup due to ‘scheduling conflicts’.
The Esports World Cup’s inaugural event kicks off on July 3, 2024, and is set to include 8 weeks of intense competition across more than 20 games. Riot was supposed to have 3 participating games for this tournament, but it seems like there will only be two of them joining in the end. According to a report by Esports Advocate, Riot’s first-person shooter, Valorant, will not be a part of The Esports World Cup due to ‘scheduling conflicts’.
The Valorant Champions Tour or VCT 2024 is set to take place on August 1. The participating esports teams will be busy trying to qualify for their regions leading up to that date. Hence, it will become difficult for the competitors to put in their best during the Esports World Cup. However, Riot has not officially confirmed that Valorant is not going to be a part of the tournament, so you might want to wait for that. Moreover, there are still two other games from the developer that will be a part of the competition, Teamfight Tactics and League of Legends.
The Esports World Cup tournament is scheduled to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia next month and will feature a prize pool worth a whopping $60 million. This is the largest sum offered prize money in the history of esports, easily breaking the previous record of $45 million by Gamers8 through their ‘The Land of Heroes’ tournament in 2023. The tournament will feature intense competition across 19 leading games across the industry with more to be announced soon. A recent report suggests that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone will be joining the fray too.
