VALORANT, Riot Games’ electrifying first-person competitive shooter, is evolving. It was confirmed at the Summer Game Fest showcase – alongside a brand-new trailer – that the game is getting a console release. This is huge news for competitive gamers the world over, with Riot Games revealing that on June 14, a limited beta will roll out on PlayStation 5 – but the game is coming to Xbox Series X|S as well.
A New Generation
VALORANT is one of the most exciting esports titles in the world, rising to global renown after being released by Riot Games in 2020. It emerged as a solid competitor to Counter-Strike, fusing the traditional mechanics of Valve’s legendary first-person shooter with Overwatch’s hero-based elements.
On June 14, console-based players – on PlayStation 5 – will get their first hands-on experience of VALORANT. In the trailer showcasing this news, Riot Games explained that all the footage captured (which you can see below) was recorded by players using a controller – and not a keyboard and mouse.
This could open up an entirely new avenue for VALORANT esports, which up until now have remained locked firmly in on PC. There’s also a mobile-based version of VALORANT being developed, but that’s a conversation for another day.
