The Oregon Trail Movie Adaptation Confirmed

The highly popular computer game from the 1970s, The Oregon Trail, is being turned into an action-comedy movie by Apple.

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter (via GameIndustry.Biz), The Oregon Trail is receiving a movie adaptation by Apple. Will Speck and Josh Gordon will direct and produce the movie. The duo is responsible for movies like Blades of Glory and Office Christmas Party.

Moreover, Oscar winners The Lucas Bros. and Max Reisman will be responsible for writing the screenplay that follows the journey of a 19th-century pioneer on the Oregon Trail. Emmy winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul will be brought on to provide original music. The movie is also rumoured to have “a couple of original musical numbers in the vein of Barbie.”

The Oregon Trail was a computer game that exploded in popularity in the 1990s. It was developed by Bill Heinemann, Don Rawitsch, and Paul Dillenberger in 1971 and released by MECC in 1974. The game’s goal was to “teach school children about the life of a 19th-century pioneer on the Oregon Trail,” where the students could be a wagon leader who guides a group of settlers.

Oregon Trail received a remake from GameLoft in 2022. The remake featured new playable journeys, upgraded visuals, and other enhancements while staying faithful to the source material. The game’s most famous aspect has been the multiple hazards you can face on your journeys, including broken limbs, snakebites, many diseases, and even dysentery.

In other news, 100 Thieves has announced a new Adidas mech drop. Also, a PlayStation spent $2000 on 24 years of PS Plus to avoid price hikes. What are your thoughts on Oregon Trail’s movie adaptation? Let us know in the comments or our new community forum!
