When is The Last of Us Season 2 TV Series Release Date? Here’s What We Know

HBO has already issued a press release announcing The Last of Us Season 2 TV Series is in development, but when will it release?

Speaking with Collider, Pedro Pascal (the actor who plays Joel) revealed that there is a chance that Season 2 of the hit HBO series begins filming in 2023. Of course, such a revelation isn’t at all surprising given the show’s huge success, but when exactly will Season 2 be released?

The Last of Us Season 2 Release Date

The Last of Us Season 1 took around 18 months of production, which includes the filming and editing processes. However, due to the TV series being produced during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s likely that Season 2 will have its production time reduced by a few months.

Nonetheless, this means that if Season 2 of The Last of Us starts filming at the end of the year, we’re probably not going to see it airing until early 2025.

What is The Last of Us Season 2 About?

Whilst details have not been revealed about what will happen in Season 2 of The Last of Us, we can easily imagine that it will follow closely to the video games. In fact, it’s entirely possible that the second season isn’t called Season 2 at all and instead could be called “The Last of Us Part II”.

In the video games, the series takes a 5-year time jump, taking Ellie from 14 to 19. It’s unclear if the TV series will follow the same timeline, but luckily the actress of Ellie (Bella Ramsey) will already be 20 years old by the time of filming.

The Last of Us TV Series Cast

If you’re not into spoilers, now is the time to stop reading. If the TV series takes on the same story as the video game, we know that Pedro Pascal as Joel,  Bella Ramsey as Ellie, and Gabriel Luna as Tommy will be making their returns.

So far, there’s been no official announcements in regard to any new cast members joining the series.
