In a new trailer today, GameMill Entertainment revealed The Karate Kid: Street Rumble, with a release date set for September 20, 2024.
The retro-style beat ’em up will be available on PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Pre-orders are available now at GameStop, with a general price tag of $39.99.
The new trailer teases that fans will “relive the ultimate underdog story” in an “all-new adventure.” So, the game will likely take many creative liberties rather than following the exact narrative of the classic film series.
The original Karate Kid film released in 1984. So, the 16-bit approach makes sense, akin to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge from 2022.
The Karate Kid IP recently grew in popularity following the Cobra Kai series at Netflix, which premiered in 2018. Now, Cobra Kai quickly approaches its sixth and final season, which comes out this month.
The new trailer for The Karate Kid: Street Rumble teases a variety of familiar characters. It may even find a way to include more characters or story beats from Cobra Kai.
GameMill Entertainment did previously publish Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues and Cobra Kai 2: Dojos Rising.
Fans may also recognize GameMill for the Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl series. The second game just recently joined the Xbox Game Pass for July 2024.
