It is a victorious day for Team Liquid, as the popular esports organization’s member, CLEM, took home first place in StarCraft II during the Esports World Cup. His performance during Grandfinals outpaced various other teams, such as BASILISK, Weibo Gaming and more.
Not only did one of Team Liquid’s members take first, but an additional member of the popular esports team secured fifth place to end the tournament series.
StarCraft II Wraps Up Esports World Cup Competition With Team Liquid In First Place
StarCraft II began its competition back on Wednesday, August 13, 2024. The first few days were filled with Group Stage matches, until Saturday, when the tournament held its first Knockout round.
Many players had to utilize the Group Stage matches to determine what playstyle would work best for them, hoping their chances at making Grandfinals would improve.
18 players competed throughout the week, but only one would be able to take home the victory.
Clément “Clem” Desplanches, a French StarCraft II player, has acquired quite a few first-place titles throughout his career. Back in May of 2024, the player had placed first in the Spring Masters and has had various other first and second-place titles since he began competing back in 2020.

CLEM Sweeps Serral In Grandfinals
While the entirety of the week was full of some of the best StarCraft II action known to gamers, no one had expected CLEM to win by completely sweeping Serral in the Grandfinals. The competitor won the tournament with a 5-0 score, proving as to why he is simply the best in the game.
CLEM walked away with $400,000 in prize earnings from the Esports World Cup, with Serral placing second and earning $150,000.
The StarCraft II Esports World Cup event marked a prominent moment in StarCraft history, proving that the game is still on top when it comes to competition and pulling in numbers.
