Nintendo Switch Online is getting some upgrades with the arrival of Switch 2, including free upgrade packs for Switch games.
Nintendo Switch Online Upgrade Packs
Players with Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack can use upgrade packs in the future. This will allow players to experience Switch 2 Editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom at no additional cost. Players only need to own the game on the original Switch and should have been subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.
GameChat with Nintendo Switch Online
A Nintendo Switch Online membership will be required to access game chat on the Switch 2. However, with the new console’s launch, GameChat can be enjoyed with a Nintendo Switch Online membership until the end of March 2026. After that date, a membership will be required to access the feature.
Nintendo GameCube is now Available through Nintendo Classics
The Nintendo Switch Online library has been renamed Nintendo Classics, and it will feature a collection of games from Nintendo Cube. Moreover, the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack will allow players to access titles like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, F-ZERO GX, and SOULCALIBUR II on the Switch 2, with more games being added in the future.
Nintendo Switch Online App Changes
The smart device app has been renamed to the Nintendo Switch app, and it will continue to offer voice chat and game-specific services for supported titles. The updated app will feature Zelda Notes, a game-specific feature for the Switch 2 editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Switch 2 users can also access their most recent 100 screenshots and video captures through the app.
In other news, Donkey Kong is getting a 3D adventure on the Switch 2. Also, the upcoming console’s games can cost up to $80 for digital and $90 for physical. What are your thoughts on the Nintendo Switch Online upgrade packs? Let us know in the comments or on our community forum!

Mario Kart price is ridiculous
PS5 all over again. Nintendo caved to this nonsense. Blame the influencer idiots who wanted this they wanted all the unnecessary things that led to high prices and they bought like 5 PS5’s the original, the slim, and the pro probably 2 all digital ones too and then an expensive PC to buy the same games on because “frame rate”. Games should look and run good but they found a way to do it on a budget with Switch 1.
